ISTAR - Injector Characterization Rig

Image of X-43

The Injector Characterization Rig (ICR) is shown above and below installed in the Direct Connect Supersonic Combustion Facility (DCSCTF - aka Test Cell #2). The ICR approximates a small section of the flowpath between two of the rocket struts in the ISTAR E201 engine beginning at the isolator and ending in the divergent combustor. This heat sink steel hardware is being tested at conditions which simulate the flow at the inlet throat corresponding to a flight Mach number of 3.5 with heated JP-7 fuel.
